Review of Wii Fit Plus

Somebody please put some X into exergaming. Great try though for the first real go at it with actual technology.   I’m satisfied with the Wii Fit Plus motion sensing, but there’s some really cool technology we see from the movie and sports industries and real workouts for gamers would be super cool.  Having a flaw in my balance due to an unknown stability caused by a weakness on my right side is cool, though. At least I have something to work on. When my neck feels better.  I also think swinging my arms around and seeing a digital avater I created respond to my moves is cool.

What is Wii Fitness all about?

Wii Fit

Well, workouts used to be sweaty, exhausting, painful and loaded with calorie burns.  I bet 10 minutes of sprints used to burn 200.  144 calories burned in 36 min on Wii Fit Plus Strength exercises.   Wii exercise is clean, sleek and without the pain and burn. Your digital avatar is a star.  Did I mention he/she before?  Be sure to keep your eyes down and listen for the cues while doing push ups. Core exercises seemed the most difficult to score.  I think mostly due to the weakness on my right side that causes the instability… You get my point.

Games are cool too.   My Wii Fit Plus gives you many short routines consisting of 3 different exercise  including a game and the option to customize your own strength, toning, weight loss, cardio and even mind & body programs.

wii-fit-plus-flying The Wii Fit Plaza offers many extras and Mii options. You can even weigh your dog. Video game designers can really bring modern exercise science to the masses. Already we have weight, BMI, calories burned and stats for every move on the balance board are all calculated and charted before your very eyes.  Thats cool.

But, what’s the coolest thing about exercising?  Results.  It can be weight loss, train for a race, looks or simply the gratification of knowing you worked hard.  Game designers need to start considering all the above. I know sports science programs around the planet have been testing, monitiring and charting our best athletes with this technology.  I hope we can bring that training to our HDtv’s. Wouldn’t that be cool?

For $80.00 including the balance board or just under $20 for Wii Fit Plus – software only to be used with your Wii Fit bundle.  There’s additional strength, yoga and exercise games  included in the Plus version.    Don’t worry, all current software will be compatible with the Wii U.
